we have taken to making friday night movie night a rather literal thing around here. some nights we’ll pop popcorn and enjoy some bottles of cream soda, other nights we might talk a walk to the gas station for an .83 cent diet coke and some treats before beginning our movie, once or twice we’ve taken a quick ride to pick up a frosty from wendy’s, and then there are the nights that i let broc plan, like last night when he busted out the martinelli’s apple cider and some skeleton cups, with a fire going in the fireplace.
overall, i recommend friday night movie night to anyone needing a cheap date idea. every friday we know it’s movie night. sometimes we watch oldies but goodies and other times it’s a new release we’ve been waiting for. we put the mini man down for bed around 8:30 and then curl up for the show with snacks of some sort. broc figured last night’s date cost us all of .25 cents. i guess that’s how much our netflix membership costs us per day…or something like that & he raided the pantry for the cups and cider so he considered those free.
i’m telling you if you don’t have a netflix membership…you need one. we started ours almost two years ago and absolutely love it. it’s what makes friday night movie night possible around here. what i love the most about them is that you can change your plan at any time with them. up until recently we had the three dvd plan for $16.99 a month, but with all the new fall tv shows starting we figured that for the time being we’d be ok with just the 1 dvd plan for $8.99 a month – and no that’s not one dvd per month, that just means one dvd at a time.
of course next summer we’ll probably change it back again – especially since all you have to do to change it, is click a button, so easy peasy! you can also put your membership on hold, which we have done sometimes as well & there are no late fee’s ever! i’m telling you, you really cannot go wrong with netflix people, they have thought of everything!
right now we are really enjoying that you can stream the instant shows on netflix through a disc you put in your wii! i have no idea how it works, but it does. yes, that’s right. on top of the dvd’s you can request to be mailed to you, they also have A TON of shows/movies you can watch instantly on your computer, or now streamed through your wii. i use the watch instant option a lot when i need shows for the mini man, as many children’s dvds are available.
don’t think you can afford netflix???
think about how many children’s video’s you purchase for your kids (all the baby einstein’s, and disney movies, and dora videos) that they watch over and over for a week and then forget all about and you’re stuck with them….and then your kids are wanting you to purchase more new videos. with netflix, you don’t have that problem. when titan decides he likes thomas the tank engine this week instead of diego…we’re covered! we just send thomas back and request diego. we literally own maybe five kids videos total & those were mainly purchased for car rides.
also, think of how much you can spend going out to movies as a couple? if you give up going out to just one movie a month…you’ve paid for your membership – in fact you’ve probably paid for two months of membership depending on where you live. yes, you have to wait until a movie’s released on dvd to see it, but honestly for most movies, is it really that big of a deal to wait? when we see a new movie coming out we simply add it to our que and then forget about it until it’s released. 9 times out of 10, we end up watching the movie and thinking, “that was good, but not worth $20 in theatre tickets! so glad we waited.”
i’m telling you, if you are looking to save money in the entertainment department, look into netflix for your family.
ps. i am not being paid or given anything from netflix for this post…i just really like netflix & and think you all would too!
