let’s get started…
now onto what i deemed worthy to talk about this week. since i had this party on my mind all week i found i noticed so many things that were positive, happy & totally blog worthy! i hope it was the same for all of you. i had a hard time narrowing it down to just one thing, so i have a few for today. funny how what you focus on, you see more of isn’t it?
up first, this talk given last weekend by elder dieter f. uchtdorf.
some of my favorite words were:
“there is a beauty and clarity that comes from simplicity that we sometimes do not appreciate in our thirst for intricate solutions…we would do well to slow down a little, proceed at the optimum speed for our circumstances, focus on the significant, lift up our eyes, and truly see the things that matter most…”
“speaking the language of ‘no’ is a good place to start creating boundaries.” ~ sarah ban breathnach
“‘whenever we deny our need to say ‘no’, our self-respect diminishes…. it is not only our right at certain times to say ‘no’; it is our deepest responsibility. for it is a gift to ourselves when we say ‘no’ to those old habits that dissipate our energy, ‘no’ to what robs us of our inner joy, ‘no’ to what distracts us from our purpose. and it is a gift to others to say ‘no’ when their expectations do not ring true for us, for in so doing we free them to discover more fully the truth of their own path. saying ‘no’ can be liberating when it expresses our commitment to take a stand for what we believe we truly need.” ~ excerpt from in search of balance: discovering harmony in a changing world.
these quotes that i read this week in the book simple abundance made me stop and think, what old habits do i need to start saying “no” to? what things do i have in my life that dissipate my energy or rob me of my inner joy? what do i need to simplify in my life? it really is a great topic to ponder in a quiet moment or talk about with family & friends. are we being distracted from our purpose by things that really don’t matter? what is my purpose anyway? definitely something to talk about. i think i’ll be putting the last quote somewhere where i will see it often!
my last item is the following music video by mindy gledhill of her song anchor (one of my faves!).
i had the chance to see her sing live at the casual blogger conference earlier this year and i am in love with her music! i can’t get enough of it. she is adorable and her musical style is phenomenal. you can’t help but be in a better mood after listening to her songs. you can purchase her cd’s on itunes and i promise you won’t have buyer’s remorse. you will be listening to every song on repeat at least until thanksgiving…and no i am not receiving anything for ranting and raving about her. i simply adore her music.
all right, it’s time to see what all of you found praiseworthy, positive or of good report this week…link away! 🙂 the link list will be open all of today.
ps. for another great video that mindy participated in and to learn about a incredible project she did with the lower lights, click here. if you love the hymns you will love the lower lights project and this video. enjoy!
