must admit – have never been one that enjoys valentine’s day (or even the month of february for that matter). in fact about the only positive i saw in february is that the gym is finally back to its normal capacity because everyone has forgotten about their new year’s resolutions.

my dislike for valentine’s even carried over into the high school dance i was in charge of my senior year. that year at alta, there was not one spec of pink or red to be seen anywhere during the valentine’s dance. and the song was dancing in the moonlight a thematic song yet not an overly cheesy and love sick make you want to gag if your single song. in fact, i believe i even signed off on posters that contained a rather interesting cupid?!? oh cupid. thinking of that poster brings back so many memories. this was not a cutesy cupid…

back on point – i walked into a store the other day and of course was surrounded by everything pink and red. everything plush, chocolatey, hearty, & lovey dovey. my initial reaction was to make a mental note to stay out of stores until february 15th but then i thought, “no”. this year i will learn to love february 14th. i will am going to learn to love this holiday. so for the next 7 days i will be spending time creating magical moments themed around love.

the other thought that hit me is that we women are always so quick to put everyone else’s needs before our own. we fill up everyone else’s love tanks and let ours run dry. we make sure everything is just right for everyone around us but then do nothing for ourselves. how about this week we put ourselves a little higher on the list?  spend more time loving ourselves and finding the good in ourselves vs. thinking we need to be “always perfect” super moms and comparing ourselves to others.

take time to get a pedicure or even just change the polish. bake your favorite treat and don’t share. write a list of all the things that you are good at. spend time during your little ones nap to do something just for you rather than feeling the need to be “productive”. for every “i should thought” think of an “i already do” thought. as in “i already do above and beyond because i am a woman and that’s what we do!”

february is a month about love. and whether you are single, married, a mom or not, you are still you. so take some time to develop that life-long romance with yourself. take time to meditate. to pray. to rejoice and dream. to grow and learn. to believe. to be inspired. to love.

take time to realize the potential that is within you. we truly are goddesses in the making.
