Cupcake Blogger Event | July 2012 |
A couple weeks ago my sister Tara (from Keep Moving Forward with Me) invited me to go to a Blogger Cupcake Event being put on by Lindsey from Be the Icing on the Cake. I told her to go ahead and RSVP a yes for both of us without having any major expectations for the class. I mean, she had me at cupcakes. Once I heard cupcakes I forgot to ask about anything else!
A few days before the night of the class I received an email with a list of supplies to bring: an apron, some frosting tips, some disposable frosting bags, some mixing bowls & some hand towels.
I’ll admit when I got the list I started to wonder if maybe I was in over my head, I mean I’m not awful at baking or cooking, but I’m definitely not a pro! Frosting tips? An apron? Pretty sure I haven’t used either of those since I was in college taking classes in the Family & Consumer Science Department. 😉
Of course, by the time I received the list, it was too late, we had already RSVP’d yes. So, I figured I may as well give it a whirl and on my way to the class I stopped by the store to grab some frosting tips & reusable bags. (Side note: I am not sure if these supplies are required for all workshops, or if these were just for our blogger event.)
The class was Tuesday night and I am here to say, it was so much fun! Like ridiculously fun & super easy too!
It didn’t hurt that Lindsey is hilarious and so easy to get to know and learn from. The minute I heard her call herself a “step skipper” I knew we would get along just fine. She taught the class as more of a workshop and, in between showing us her super handy tips and hints, just let us do our own thing with our own 12 cupcakes. It was very hands on and DIY without the pressure to turn out the perfect cupcake! Such a great learning environment.
In fact, I learned so much I now feel like I can wield a frosting tip and fill a frosting bag via spatula with the best of them – or at least with the best of the non professionals any way! 😉
I guess I should say I now feel like I could make my own cupcakes for Ti’s next party instead of racking up a huge bill at the Sweet Tooth Fairy. Yep, our cupcakes were that tasty and good looking & I was amazed at how easy it really was!
Here are some more photo’s from the event:
My favorite tip from the night is that I learned you can purchase yummy frosting and ganache from most local bakeries for like $2.99 a pound. I always thought my choices were either making my own frosting or using the nasty canned stuff that is out on the shelves. Knowing that I can just purchase things like that at a bakery is definitely music to my ears! Between working 20-30 hours a week, having a husband in medical school and chasing around Ti guy I’d much rather buy the stuff and then just spend my time doing the decorating. I mean why not just jump to the part I get the most joy out of, right? It’s all about priorities people. 🙂

Lindsey will work around people’s requests for classes. So, if you have a group of girls you want to get together, this would be perfect. In fact, I was thinking it would be fun for a bridal shower!
Here’s to fewer cupcakes being frosted with a butter knife! 🙂
