every year for the past 25 years i have had plans over labor day weekend. these plans consisted of going to cherry hills with my dad’s side of the family. it is a family event i have not missed in 25 years (at least that i’m aware of). it is truly a tried and true tradition in the trost family. in fact, the cherry hill employee’s all know us by name, we have been going there that long! we have all literally grown up going to cherry hills.
the whole extended family always go up friday night to set up the tents and get all settle in, then we spend all day saturday at the water park, miniature golf saturday evening and spend sunday lounging around playing games and enjoying pie leftovers. monday, we pack it all up and head home until the next labor day weekend.
of course, now that we live in colorado & couldn’t quite spend $250.00 in airfare to fly down just for this weekend, this labor day has been the first one ever that i haven’t had plans. i literally did not know what to do. i mean what else do you do on labor day weekend if you’re not at cherry hills camping? i have never even contemplated doing something different.
thankfully, we were able to find plenty to do between a last hurrah at chuck e. cheese with some friends before school starts for them, a neighborhood bbq, and a trip to the botanical gardens also with friends.
i have felt so so welcome here in this area and neighborhood and for that i am very grateful. had i not had places to go and people to do things with, i may have been throwing a little pity party for myself that i wasn’t in utah this weekend.
i am so thankful for all the friendly mom’s who have reached out and welcomed titan and i into their homes and lives in the short month or so we have been here. thank you! thank you! i was so nervous about making friends here in colorado & finding things to do, but have found my jitters were pointless. phew!
