good morning! happy tuesday everyone!
can i just say it’s a fabulous morning? why so wonderful? well, because i finally got my behind out of bed to go to the gym this morning and it’s about freaking time! i have been so lazy the past few months.
yes, it’s only 6:00 am and already i’ve got my work out in which is a great start to the day for me. this means i’m on track to have this post done, a load of laundry started and a shower complete – all before 7:00 am! my family might even get a hot breakfast this morning??? 🙂

any way just had to share my excitement and pat myself on the pack for actually rolling out of bed, now onto the real reason for this post…

remember this post where i swore i would never buy window cleaner again? well my friends, i found myself in need of windex this last weekend (actually i’ve been needing some for a few weekends nows) and i am happy to say, i have finally made my own. i was tempted to run out and just grab a bottle of windex (with or without a coupon) but then i remember the savings of over $2.00 if you just make your own and so i gathered the ingredients and got to work. i figured its worth a try at least once, right? i mean that two dollars is almost 2 1/2 diet cokes at the gas station.

my conclusion? it works like a charm and was so simple to make. in fact, i’m sure most the ingredients you already have lying around your house. not kidding, i don’t ever plan on buying windex again! especially since i really like the fact that i know EXACTLY what’s in my version. it’s “green” and non toxic & i have no idea what’s even in windex. i’m probably weird that i find that an added perk, but i honestly do.

any way, i think diy windex is totally worth the couple of minutes it takes to shake it all together in a spray bottle. here’s the recipe so you can concoct your own:

diy window cleaner
mix the following together in a spray bottle:
1/4 cup vinegar
2 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
5-10 drops lemon oil (for a nice scent)
*tip: you may also want to locate a funnel as you are gathering together your supplies. the funnel really helps in getting everything into the bottle. i tried at first without one and ended up with half the liquid on the counter.

before
with dried on toothpaste and lipstick that i added for a better visual.

after
sparkling clean!

ps. the original source for the recipe is here. also, you will notice i was using newspaper as my “cloth”which is an old old habit, i’ve always used old newspaper when cleaning windows/mirrors. i’ve heard though that microfiber cloth is much better to use? something about toxins in the print of the newspaper? any way, what do you all use? any one have a better suggestion than my apparently toxic newspaper? is microfiber the way to go for a streak free shine? 🙂
