back in january my husband purchased a bread maker & it was on it’s way to our house before i ever heard a word about it. broc is all about self sufficiency now a days. he’s all over having a garden, grinding our own wheat, having chickens so we can have fresh eggs, etc. i simply laugh at his reasons and suggestions because, let’s be real, would he be the one doing all of that? nope! it would be me. i buy the bread and eggs. i do the meal and grocery shopping. i take care of the house. you get the idea!
i suspect the bread maker was his way of trying to acclimatize me to the changes he wants to make. key word there was “trying” not succeeding. ha ha.
we used the bread maker once at our old house but since that one time it’s been collecting dust, so we decided to bust it out last week here in colorado and give it another go. broc carefully went through each of the steps to make our first loaf of 100% wheat bread and while it did smell fabulous baking – it was a dud.
i’m not sure what went wrong but i tried one bite of the finished loaf and wanted to throw the rest away. it was gross. i’ll stick to my great harvest wheat bread, thank you very much!
i’m sure we’ll give the bread maker another try but i’m actually more interested in making bread from scratch, without the bread maker? i think i’ll give that a try this weekend if time allows. i just have never really had a good slice of bread that was made in a bread maker? no matter how carefully the recipe is followed, something is always off.
although pulling out the bread maker did bring back memories of my first year of college when i would make bread in my roommates bread maker and take it over to some guy friends on wednesday nights as part of smallville night. oh, smallville night. oh, the boys at bunkhouse. what a first year of college it was! funny how something like a bread maker can bring back so many memories!

I have a recipe from my sister for bread from scratch. It's really easy! You can make it with wheat flour or white flour and the only time it needs to raise is while the oven is warming up! Would you like it? (I have to dig through my resipe's for it)

Yes please! That sounds like my kind of recipe! 🙂 Sounds like a good starting place for I who screw up even using the bread maker. LOL Thanks!

I have a really yummy whole wheat bread recipe, too. But I do mine completely from scratch, and it takes a little while. I've got a wheat grinder and a Bosch machine, without those I don't think it would turn out. It's actually pretty fun. Let me know if you're interested.
