Love Saving Money On Groceries!

There are many commercials which are on television about erectile dysfunction, and I feel that this is an outrage because again men are trying to let themselves off the hook by laying the blame on women, trying to make women feel guilty because they aren’t doing enough for their man. levitra shop uk How to prevent cardiac arrest after sex, and cialis 20 mg how to respond? However, online cialis prescriptions been proven more effective in many countries. For a woman, it cialis tablets can be due to female or male reproductive system issues or both.

as mentioned yesterday, this year i’ll be posting periodically each month about our $200 a month grocery & home goal. here is what has been spent so far in january:
  • $8.25 for 4 boxes of quaker dinosaur oatmeal on amazon (reg. $12.06). am hoping that oatmeal with dinosaur eggs in it will be more appealing to my three year old little man who currently is not so keen on oatmeal. (i have found i can generally get regular oatmeal for under a $1.00 a box so this was a splurge…but my end goal was to get ti guy to eat it so i went for the dino’s & spent more.)
  • $26.50 on bountiful baskets. i picked this up saturday and spent $16.50 on the produce & $10 for 5 loaves of 9 grain braid. this our bread for the month (4 loaves went right in the freezer) and a great start to our fruits and veggies.
  • $4.04 at king soopers for some tide stain release & hair products!
  • Total spent to date: $38.79

here is how I was able to get 2 packs of tide stain release and 2 aussie hair products for only $4.04 (just ignore the pudding in the photo, it’s being taken back):

Purchased 2 Tide Stain Release at $5.99 each (On Sale)
Purchased 2 Aussie Hair Care Products at $2.79 each (On Sale)
Used 2 of the $1.00 off of one Aussie Hair Care Product Coupon from the 01-01-11 PG
Plus, used 2 of the $2.00 off Tide Stain Release Coupon from the 01-01-11 PG
Plus, got $4.00 for purchasing 4 P&G products (in store promotion)
Plus, got an additional $4.00 off at checkout for sharing the promotion online earlier in the week
Total cost only $4.04 after tax!

had i paid full price for those 4 items i would have spent around $22.24, so that was a savings of $18.20!
and there you have it, that is what we have spent so far this month. if you want to learn more about saving money on your groceries make sure you check out freebies2deals
**side note: we did make one trip to costco and one trip to king soopers right when we got back from utah that are not included. these trips total were for around $70-$75, but they are not being counted because we were replacing some items that had been ruined (by our freezer being turned off by some flooring people) when we were out of town. we are hopefully getting a check back from the company…crossing our fingers…and so that was left out of the year to date goal because we should be getting the money back. that’s another story for another time though…

it’s a new year. that means new goals, and for me…a new money plan.

now, let’s be clear here…we all know money has never been my strong point. i definitely prefer to spend money than save it. that doesn’t mean i don’t prefer to save money when purchasing things, i definitely do (i even work for a money saving site)! i just like to go spend that saved money almost immediately after saving it on a pedicure or massage…preferably at the kura door in salt lake! in my book the past while it hasn’t been a penny saved is a penny earned…it’s been a penny saved is a penny put towards new shoes!

well, this year, i (and broc) decided that needs to change. broc’s school situation will be changing in about 5-6 months (he’ll be advancing on to the clinical rotation part of med school) which means we will be moving (who knows where, but there will be a move)! and, when we move, i’d prefer our finances be such that we have more options available to us than a 1 bedroom apartment in some crazy scary neighborhood!

i’ve actually been told by broc that there is a very strong possibility of us actually being able to purchase a home! um…did the heavens just open and the angels start singing??? a home? of our own? YES PLEASE! we have not been in a place of our very own since the first 6 months of our marriage and that was almost 5 years ago (and that was a little basement apartment that i adored)!!! of course there are no guarantee’s, but just hearing that a home is even remotely a possibility, has given me all the motivation i need to whip our finances into shape.

in fact, i may even admit i’m warming up to the word budget! shocking i know!

with that said, our “budget” for 2012 for our food & household supplies is $200.00 a month. which, in all honestly, is actually a very lenient budget. there are families of 4-6 that have budgets of only $100-$150 a month… so i’m feeling very comfortable that $200 is a decent goal (especially for someone like me who is still learning to simplify. yes… my simplify goal has even crossed over to my spending! no…the world is not ending).

to help me keep this goal and to help me keep track, every few days (or at least once a week) i’ll be posting a summary of what i’ve spent so far. i think putting it up here on le blog will help me have some accountability and help remind me of our end goal which is our own little happy place in 6-8 months.

here’s to the word budget & i becoming actual friends this year!

here is the story of how i came upon my main new years resolution for this year…
every year we spend christmas eve with my husband’s family & then christmas morning with my entire family. that means on christmas morning this year there were 12 adults, 6 grandkids & 1 welch corgie all celebrating christmas together christmas morning!
let me tell you, with that many people in one room…that is a whole lot of christmas going on. especially since all 6 of the grandchildren are under the age of 6! that first hour or two of christmas morning tends to be a little chaotic. fun, but very chaotic.
in fact, there was so much going this year that titan didn’t even glance in his stocking until the following morning. we totally forgot all about it.
so the next morning, when titan finally noticed his stocking and asked if he could open it, i told him to go right ahead. i took a break from my work on the computer & turned to see titan dumping out his stocking to examine the contents…
upon examining the contents i heard him exclaim in pure delight, “santa brought me yogurt raisins!!!!!”
now, this wasn’t just a statement. this was something said with absolute happiness and amazement. ti guy was literally so thrilled that santa had brought him yogurt raisins. like really? are you telling me that’s all it takes to please a 3 year old?
here’s the funny thing, on christmas morning when he was opening his real gifts which included things like a leapfrog learning pad, digital camera, dancing & talking tonka truck, etc. he wasn’t nearly as excited at all. give him a box of yogurt raisins though and apparently he’s thrilled beyond belief.
lesson learned…simplify. simplify. simplify! also, take some time to be quiet and to focus on the little things in life.
i honestly think christmas morning titan was just so overwhelmed that he couldn’t even focus on what was really going on. the next morning though when it was more quiet and he could actually take the time to be present and to really look at what was in his stocking, it was like a whole new experience. he was able to find joy in even something as simple as a box of raisins. i’m sure had we also pulled out the leapfrog learning pad in the same atmosphere (versus the crazy, hectic, overwhelming, albeit fun one the morning before) we also would have received a similar reaction.
do i regret what santa brought christmas morning? nope. i did learn though that it’s best to simplify and that often even the best gifts (or people or events or details of life) can get overlooked because we are way too crazed and too distracted to really notice them. everything & anything (even yogurt rasins) can always be so much better appreciated when we take a moment to be still & to be present to the moment.
so, that is my main resolution this year, to have more peace and simplicity in my life and in my family’s life!
here’s to 2012!!!
