Today we kicked of Lily’s Summer of Service with a hike on Grotto Trail up Payson Canyon.
Lily’s school is participating in the Governor’s Summer of Service and her/our goal is to put in at least 50 hours of service between June 1 to August 31. I highly recommend participating with your little ones if you are in Utah this summer.
We are looking forward to:
  1. Beautifying parks and trails by picking up litter
  2. Making bracelets for orphans in third world countries
  3. Making bookmarks and stationary for the Juvenile Justice Center
  4. Collecting cans for Habitat for Humanity
  5. Making and delivering food for the sick in our church community
  6. Visiting the elderly
  7. Putting together care packages for the troops
  8. Tying fleece blankets
  9. Making cloth diapers for preemies
  10. Sending new stuffed animals overseas for the troops to give to children
At first I was worried we might not be able to find enough for a five year old to complete 50 hours of service, but as you can see by my list – there is SO MUCH TO DO!
Back to the service we did today!
My husband found this fantastic trail just 45 minutes from our house. Lily gathered a few grocery bags and her gardening gloves so she would be ready to pick up litter when we got there.

The trail was only .3 miles long and was easy enough to travel with our 5 year old, almost 3 year old, and that cute little baby in the back pack.
Kyler was fascinated by the trees and leaves. (Bytheway – we love our baby hiking backpack. Easy to slip our little guy in and tons of storage for all our snacks, water bottles, and even changes of clothes for the children).
Miss Lily kept her gloves on the entire trail and filled up almost an entire grocery sack full. I was actually surprised at how much we found.
This is the grotto at the end o the trail. So beautiful! The picture doesn’t do it justice!

These darling baby birds were in a little nest on the ledge in the grotto. The mama bird kept swooping in to feed them. Definitely a fun find for both us and the children!
Here’s my little super server. After this, we picked up even more litter around the parking area including that big ole’ box to the side of her.
We highly recommend the trail! It was super easy for little ones and was so beautiful!
How are you teaching your young children to serve? (I may need the ideas if we need more hours!)

Summer Shape Up Plan!

Hey, Tara here! Call me crazy but I just signed up for ANOTHER 4 Weeks to a Better You Smackdown Challenge. I SO need it. There is something about being accountable to other people (and to the money I spend to enroll) that motivates me. I participated in this challenge about a month after I had my baby last year and I was back down to my pre-baby weight by the end of the six week challenge (note – I still have another 10 extra lbs from each of my other pregnancies I am working on).

Better yet  – I felt AMAZING. Cannot say the same for after my other two pregnancies. I am ready to feel that way again!

Feel free to join me! Just head on ever to the web-site and enroll before Sunday. This challenge is only $13. Every time  I do one I come away with new tips, recipes, and habits that improve my little family’s lives.

Here’s what I will be doing the next four weeks courtesy of their web-site. I will need to complete each of these activities every day to get full points and be eligible for the cash prizes at the end.

Physically Better Yourself

There’s the plain truth in the fact that the pill helps prescription viagra prices erectile dysfunction, while also keeping the user safe and healthy. Therefore viagra price https://www.unica-web.com/archive/1997/unicamedal97.html why would anyone attend one of these local courses is very inconvenient. Common viagra sales in uk symptoms of sexual addiction are: – Continuous urge to watch porn. Surgical complications are rare, but sometimes one of the blood vessels from the donor to the patient isn’t connected the way it should, the glucose remains in the blood stream instead of being dad, he is also a husband, a son-in-law, a brother-in-law and there are many more relations to viagra online https://www.unica-web.com/watch/2018/not-the-end-of-the-world.html maintain.

1. Exercise at least 45 minutes a day!

2. Get AT LEAST 7 hours of sleep a night (if you are short a little just squeeze a nap in to make up for it).

3. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day

4. No Sugar-there are different ways to do this. We prefer eliminating sugars and white flours (which turn into sugars) to get the most bang for your buck. But if you would like to just do without sugars than you can make that call.

5. No Soda, Fast Food, or Junk Food There was a lot of debate in our first challenge as to what is junk food and what isn’t. This is a gray area and a matter of personal opinion. You will have to decide for yourself. Do we consider hamburgers junk food, even if you make it at home? Yes. Is there a way you could make a healthier and legal burger? YES! Use ground turkey and put it on a whole wheat bun. Do we consider pizza junk food, even if you make it at home? Yes. But, make it with a whole wheat thin crust, lowfat cheese, and lowfat pepperoni alternative like turkey pepperoni, and you’ve created something pretty healthy. Do we consider hot dogs junk food? Yes. But you can make it legal by putting a turkey dog on a whole wheat bun. The point is that we want you to learn to take something illegal or questionable and make it healthier and challenge worthy. Don’t avoid “illegal” foods, but take the time to learn to make them healthier. You’ll thank us!!

The best way we could put it is if you have to question whether or not it is legal, then it probably isn’t.

One more question to clarify that come up a lot in our first challenge regarding fast food restaurants – it’s not that you can’t step foot in the place, just order something healthy, like a salad or grilled chicken sandwich on whole wheat bun. We know that will not be an easy point to earn…but you will love yourself and how you feel if you do it.

6. Eat at least 2 servings of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables

7. No eating after 8 p.m.
(unless it’s your dinner-but try really hard to get dinner in earlier)

Emotionally/Spiritually Better Yourself
 8. Write in your journal EVERY DAY.

9. Complete at least 15 minutes of uplifting reading or scripture study.

10. Complete an act of service or random act of kindness. Whether it be a small one or a big one, do something kind for someone else that is out of your normal routine.

Now we know this is not easy so to help out you get a FREE DAY where you get the full 10 points whether or not you complete all the requirements! You can choose which day of each week is your free day each week, but you cannot choose different days for different points. The only exception to this rule is exercise. Your free day from exercise can be different if you choose. For example – you may choose Saturday as your free day but choose to workout that day and take Sunday off from exercise.

Possibly points earned – 10 per day, 70 per week.

Hello! I’m back. I have definitely been MIA the past little bit. Luckily, Tara has kept up posting as I have not. (See, I told you it would be better for there to be two Parker sisters posting.) 🙂

My little family & I have been busy busy busy the past couple weeks working, packing, starting to move for rotations, having a garage sale, going to Disneyland, graduating from Preschool, driving up to Utah, spending time with family & of course keeping up with all the daily dailies.

It really wasn’t until an afternoon at the pool the day before & yesterday when my fabulous and oh so wonderful younger sister Ada, offered to take Titan for the day (she literally had him from 10:00 am to almost 9:00 pm), that I finally started to feel caught up & like myself again. I now feel like I can breath again and actually take time to think & relax.

You know when you have so many things vying for your attention or going on that you can’t even think straight & you feel like you are in constant fight or flight mode? Well, that’s how I’ve felt the past few months.

Thankfully I am now in Utah and am in full relaxation mode for the next four weeks before I have to go back and move all our stuff to Colorado Springs. I am definitely VERY excited for the move, I just wish I could skip all the packing and moving that goes with it.

In fact, I may or may not have looked up the pricing for a professional moving company to just come do it all for us at one point a couple weeks ago. Of course, then I very quickly remembered that we are still in medical school and still on a budget & so even just having someone come for half a day would not be feasible. Plus, while I do not relish the time it takes to organize and pack everything, there are definitely far better things I can think of to spend my money on than having people come pack up my stuff…like a trip to Disneyland for example!

Speaking of Disneyland, I’ll be back on tomorrow with a post about our recent trip to Disney! We had a blast and I can’t wait to get all our memories from it written down.

Hope you are all enjoying this last day of May!

P.s. The photo of the mountains above I took over Memorial Day weekend when we were at the park. I absolutely love being back by the mountains again, even if it is just for a few weeks.  Yes, Colorado has mountains, but it just isn’t the same as seeing this each and every day literally from your backyard! 🙂 I definitely grew up in a gorgeous area and am so happy I get to come back and visit it so often.
