Time to talk jewelry…

I recently found a new favorite online jewelry store and want to share it with everyone! The site is A Modern Boutique and I came across it a few weeks ago via Instagram. I’ll admit,  I loved how cute their necklaces were but I almost passed on even looking on their site thinking the necklace I had noticed would probably be way out of my price range. (Still living on that medical school budget…) To my surprise though, they have crazy good prices! (Seriously! Go check out their prices, you will not believe what you are seeing! I’ll wait…)

We’ll talk necklaces (and even a giveaway) in a moment, but first, do you want to know the best part about this company? They donate a portion of each sale to Mothers Without Borders! (An organization that serves orphaned children around the world.) So when you shop with them, not only are you getting really cute jewelry at an awesome price, you are also helping the Mothers Without Borders organization as well. It doesn’t get much better than that!

As you look through the necklaces, you will notice that all the necklaces have different names like Stella, Crystal, Abigail, and more. That is because a lot of the necklaces are named after a child they are helping. You can read about each child’s story on the A Modern Boutique Facebook page.

While you are there, you can also read about their Tickle Me Pink Collection that they have released exclusively for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each necklace in the Tickle Me Pink Collection has a story and was named after a woman affected by breast cancer. All of those photos and stories are available on the A Modern Boutique Facebook page as well.

Now time to share some of my favorites from their site…

Out of all the necklaces on their site, one of my favorite necklaces is their Stella Crystal Necklace. This necklace is only $10.99 and it’s perfect on its own or layered with other necklaces. It adds a nice bit of glam to any outfit, something I’m definitely needing more of lately in my mom life/wardrobe. If you are thinking this necklace looks familiar, you might be thinking of the J. Crew Crystal Venus Fly Trap Necklace that retails for $98.00. I don’t know about all of you, but I’d much rather pay only $10.99 and get a really similar look.

I also own the Charity Feather Necklace ($10.99) and the Faith Turquoise Necklace ($13.99) and have had those rotating in my current jewelry rotation as well. In fact, those were my first two necklaces that I purchased from A Modern Boutique and they were nice enough to send me the Stella Crystal Necklace to review when it appeared on their site not too long after. On my “Wish List” is the Crystal Carol Necklace and the Abigail White Stone Necklace. A girl can never have too much jewelry, right? (Hint, hint Santa!) 😉

Looking for a fun way to work on letter recognition with preschool age kids? Try a game of Bingo! I found this really cute Halloween Bingo game in the Target Dollar Spot a week or so ago and Titan and I have had a lot of fun playing together. He likes playing a game with mom and I like that we are working on his letters and direction following while having fun at the same time.

Of course, since it is usually just the two of us, we did have to make up some of our own “House Rules”. For example, rather than one person being the caller, we take turns closing our eyes and picking out the next picture to call. Then, the rule is you have to say the first letter of the word/picture you picked up. That way Titan is working on his letters and working on matching words to pictures/objects.

As you can see, the awesome thing about this version of Bingo is that the pieces have both the word written out and a picture. So it’s super easy for Titan to recognize what he has selected. And, he is able to put the word with the picture for easier recognition the next time he comes across that word.

We also have a rule that if you get Bingo, you get to take two turns being the caller. And, we generally play until all of our squares are filled up and we both have a black out.

Basically, we make up our own rules as we go, but you could also play just like regular Bingo if you had a larger group. In fact, Titan is already planning on taking this game to Utah to play with his cousins Halloween night. This game is definitely getting a lot of use and turning out to be well worth the $1.00 we paid for it! I really think the only downside to the game is I do worry about it holding up as it’s all on cardboard and card stock. To solve that dilemma though, I may just laminate the pieces. Of course, considering it was only a $1.00, I won’t be too disappointed if it’s hammered after only one month of playing and learning. 🙂

What is the best thing you’ve picked up at the Target Dollar Spot lately? Anything good I need to keep any eye out for?
I love all the things I’m able to find for really cheap for our Preschool bin and at-home learning. Adding new things in here and there definitely helps keep Titan more interested. Plus, it’s fun when you can theme things around the different holidays! 🙂

Parker Cabin | Zion’s Kolob Canyons

After we spent a couple days at Cherry Hill over Labor Day weekend with my family, we drove to St. George to spend some time with Broc’s grandparents at their cabin in Zion’s Kolob Canyons. We were able to enjoy the gorgeous mountain views, do some fishing, ride the four wheelers, and just spend some time way from the craziness of every day life.

Here are some (or a lot) of our favorite memories from the trip…

Our view while driving to the cabin.

This little man loves to roll down his window, put his hand out and then just zone out. Does it every time we get in the car.

I love the drive up to the cabin. Such a scenic drive!

Our car isn’t quite equipped for off-roading, so we left our car at the Fly Shop and then took four wheelers into the cabin. Ti got to hang out here with his Great Grandma Parker and eat ice cream while we went to get the four wheelers.

The Parker Cabin!

Broc’s grandparents have some hummingbird feeders out on their porch and it was surprisingly very entertaining to watch the hummingbirds. There was one hummingbird in particular that was very possessive of the feeder (we learned his is a Rufous Hummingbird) and he would chase all the other birds away. Another bird would come up to the feeder and the Rufous would literally zoom out of a nearby tree to chase it away. Apparently the Rufous Hummingbird is the feistiest hummingbird in North America. Who knew?! (Goes to show learning can happen anywhere, anytime!) 🙂

This is how I spent a lot of our time. A good book, diet coke, fresh air and mountain views. What more can you ask for?!

My boys! Ti loved the four wheelers!

I loved the four wheelers too…until I decided to take on a ditch and the ditch won.
Don’t worry, other than being super sore and having some cuts on my arm, both I and the four wheeler were ok. Go big or go home, right? 🙂

Some friends of the Parkers own a cabin up the road with a mini playground. Ti loved riding the four wheelers up to the playground to swing and run around.

Another favorite of Ti’s was riding on Papa Parker’s tractor! Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip with Ti without about a hundred pictures all with one funny face or another. 🙂

Ti “helping” Great Grandpa Parker drive the tractor. It was so fun to watch the interaction between these two. I am really happy Titan will have these memories of his great grandparents. 🙂

On this trip we finally go to find out what the Duck Dynasty craze is all about! I will admit, I had my doubts about this show, but after the first episode – I was hooked! Such a funny and entertaining show! If you haven’t jumped on the Duck Dynasty bandwagon yet, I highly suggest you do now. (Thanks Conner & Ashley for letting us borrow the first season!)

Getting ready for some Duck Dynasty! Loved how quiet and relaxing the evenings were at the cabin.
My little goof ball!

Bud the pug. Such a funny little dog. And, one of the few dogs Titan actually likes!

Just some nature we enjoyed. Ti couldn’t believe the water droplets were still so perfectly formed on the leaf.

One of the few places in his life Titan has been allowed to throw rocks.

Titan with his fishing license.

The lake!

We took Titan out fishing on this lake and were literally the only ones on the lake. I guess that’s what happens when you go on the Tuesday after Memorial Day!

My boys.

I found the container for the bait rather humorous!
Say cheese!

Titan’s first fishing trip. It was very nice of Grandpa Parker to take us out on the lake and do the majority of the work. We would have been lost without him!

Broc and his mini me.

If you are wondering what I did on the fishing expedition. I took pictures (obviously), helped hold the net here and there and enjoy some diet coke will taking in the amazing view!

Ti learning about fish bait and worms.
Ti is definitely a Parker. 🙂

Titan’s first catch!
Seeing how proud he was of himself made the whole trip worth it! I can’t say I’m a huge fishing fan, but for this smile and all his excitement, I would do it all over again!

Grandpa Parker (Ti’s Great Grandpa) teaching Titan how to hook the fish, etc.

Ti and Broc with the fish we caught.
Funny story, as we caught each fish we would hook it to a line that was attached to the boat. At the end, Grandpa Parker showed Titan how you gut and clean the fish. Ti wasn’t too thrilled by this. He thought we were catching and releasing and they were just tagging along for the ride. It gave us a good opportunity to talk to him about how you should only catch what you plan to eat, etc. Of course, he was very happy to hear that Great Grandma and Grandpa Parker were going to cook and eat the fish later and that he didn’t have to. So happy I don’t have an avid fisher on my hands! 😉
My arm on Day 2. How the human body heals itself is absolutely amazing to me.

Four wheelin’

My little tough guy! 😉

More scenic views from our drive out of the canyon.

I literally could have stayed up on the mountain for another week or two. There is just something so calming about being away from life and in nature. I felt like I could actually relax and breathe. (Which is saying something for me. I am NEVER relaxed! Just ask Broc!) 😉

Not even 10 minutes into the drive to St. George and Titan was out! Guess we wore him out. It’s hard playing all day and being out in the fresh mountain air. 🙂

After we drove down off the mountain we stayed at the Ross Condo for two nights so I could work and we could enjoy a little bit of St. George. The Pizza Factory and Nielsens Frozen Custard were our very first stops after dropping our luggage off at the condo.

No explanation required for this awesomeness!

Where I worked two different mornings. I feel so lucky to have a job that I can do anywhere there is internet. It definitely makes travel and family time a lot easier to navigate.

On our way out of town on our last day we decided to give Swig a try. We had heard A LOT of awesome things about their Dirty Diet Coke and Sugar Cookies…

..and niether disappointed. Swig, you need to come to Colorado Springs!

Even Titan approves!
