Back to playing catch up! By tomorrow I’m hoping to be current on this blog with our family activities! Wish me luck! 😉 (I just figure, if I don’t do it now? When will I? Plus, with Thanksgiving coming up and then Christmas shortly after, it’s now or never!)
Up first is our trip to San Antonio, TX for our 7th Anniversary (and for Broc’s military rotation). When we found out that Broc was going to be in San Antonio all of September and then Ohio for all of October, we quickly planned a way for me to be able to visit him in San Antonio for a few days. Figured it would be our anniversary gift to each other. (Of course, then Broc ended up not going to Ohio because of the Government Shut Down, but that’s a whole other story for another time!) 🙂
I left Wednesday evening and flew back in late Monday night and am SO grateful we were able to make this trip happen! As much as we love our little man, it sure is nice to have a few days to just be husband and wife! 🙂

I have to admit, I was so proud of myself that everything I packed for the six day trip fit in one medium suitcase and my purse!
Enjoying some Einstein’s Hot Chocolate and a good book before my flight. Seems so rare these days that A) I have a drink all to myself and B) I have uninterrupted time to actually focus on what I’m reading!
I got into San Antonio pretty late (Midnight/1:00am late) and we drove straight to this festive restaurant for a late night treat! The place is called
Mi Tierra Cafe and while the food was good, I think most people go for the atmosphere and bakery. I couldn’t believe how decorated the place was. It was an awesome and fitting first impression of Texas!
We don’t currently have a t.v. at our apartment and one of the few things I miss is morning talk shows like Live with Kelly and Michael. Luckily whenever I go on vacation, those show are now a special treat! 🙂
Our second day in Texas we decided to try
Chuys out! Oh. My. Word! It was SO good. If you are ever in San Antonio (or somewhere that has a Chuys), make sure to check this restaurant out!
Two months later and I still crave these enchiladas!
My handsome date!
Another perk of this vacation was the breakfast each morning. I would walk down right before I was supposed to work (I rarely take work off when we vacation. A bonus of being able to work anywhere there is internet) and grab a DC and my breakfast! I wish this set up happened at home… LOL
I also made sure to take advantage of the Staybridge Suites hotel amenities like the gym and pool! It was great in the afternoons to have some free time to myself to workout, get ready, relax, and just enjoy the peace and quiet. (Broc kept working while I was there too. So he was gone from 8-4 each day. Can you tell we have a hard time being away from work…) 🙂 PS: We also liked that this hotel was within walking distance to The Alamo and The River Walk. Plus, it was right off the free way so it was super easy to get to from the airport.
I couldn’t believe it was the middle of September and it was warm enough to lay out by the pool!!! Like 90 degrees warm! LOVED it!
Another favorite restaurant was
Rudy’s! I’m not usually a big BBQ fan, but their food was really good and very reasonably priced! My favorite was by far their creamed corn! So addicting and delicious! (Of course, shortly after posting a pic on Instragram of this place (that I thought was only in TX) I learned we also have one here in Colorado Springs. So much for only going places we couldn’t go back home!)
This place is attached to a gas station, but don’t let that deter you!
How fun is that drink set up?
We just HAD to finish off the meal with some Blue Bell Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream! When in Texas, right?! 🙂
The Alamo!
Yes, I am one of those people who took a quick phone camera shop of the souvenir picture. They wanted $25.00 for this one picture?! Are you kidding me???
If you go to visit the
Alamo (and aren’t an Alama expert), make sure you watch the free film that is shown every 30 minutes or so. It really helped tie everything together and give a full picture of what went on at the Alamo.
The River Cruise!
The River Walk is by definitely my most favorite thing we did on the trip! We did the
River Cruise one day and then ate along side the river another night. The River Cruise was really interesting because you got to learn A LOT about San Antonio and the area.
Broc was lucky enough to be in San Antonio at the same time two of our medical school friends were also there doing their rotations. We all met up one night for dinner and had a lot of fun! There was even some added excitement when a guy came running by (we were out on the patio) calling for a doctor. I looked around at the table and saw THREE doctors! Of course, then I wondered if they technically counted yet since they don’t graduate until May? 😉 Luckily, all three of the guys were able to stay and enjoy the meal after some other guy volunteered to go. (Quick note: One of the guys pointed out, if you are every in an emergency situation, you should be calling for a paramedic first, and then a doctor. Paramedics are usually better trained for immediate response.)
Sea World!
If you are military and you visit San Antonio, make sure to visit Sea World! You will get FREE entry, 30% off one meal & 30% off a souvenir! Talk about a cheap date! 🙂 (PS: I had no idea Sea World is like $65 per ticket! I mean it makes sense, just couldn’t believe our military ID saved us over $150 between the tickets, souvenir and food!)
I was pleasantly surprised by the food selection at Sea World. Lots of yummy options and the pricing wasn’t too terribly high once you factored in the 30% off. Of course, make sure to do lunch though AFTER you try out all their roller coasters! We were able to walk right on most of the attractions and went a little roller coaster crazy. Luckily, it was all before we had eaten a huge meal.
After walking around San Antonio looking for a souvenir for Titan, I finally decided just to grab something at Sea World! Figured Titan would have more fun with a Sea World Animal Playset than a toy gun or straw hat!
And, last but not least, my favorite meal of the whole trip! The last night I was there we walked down to the River Walk and ate at
Boudro’s! We were able to sit right along side of the river and enjoy a really yummy dinner complete with some creme brulee and freshly made guacamole! It was the perfect setting for an anniversary dinner! 🙂
Our server had a hard time focusing my phone apparently. 😉 This was the best of like three attempts!
The guacamole cart! Most definitely some of the best guacamole I have ever had!
Our view during dinner while we listened to the band across the way.
There were so many lights at night, it was hard for my little camera phone to get a good shot! (So maybe it wasn’t our server after all..) 😉
My chauffer to the Airport. I so rarely see him in uniform… it still surprises me! 🙂
Good bye San Antonio!
PS: Can you spot my luggage? LOVE having giraffe print luggage that stands out! Never have to guess which bag might be mine amongst all the black and dark navy blue! 😉
