After my mom came for a visit in October we actually came back to with her to spend two weeks in Utah. Originally it was just supposed to be myself and Titan coming back for those last two weeks in October, but with the Government Shutdown, Broc ended up being home and able to come with us as well! October is by far my favorite month in Utah because of all the fun fall activities there are.

Up first on our schedule was a visit to Wheeler Farm. I hadn’t been to Wheeler Farm in at least 10 years, but I thought it could be a fun and educational experience for Titan so we made sure to fit it in.

When we first got to Wheeler Farm we decided to get tokens for the wagon ride and buy some bird seed to feed the ducks/geese/etc. If you want the ULTIMATE Duck Feeding Experience, visit Wheeler Farm. Holy Cow! There were so many ducks, pigeons, geese, etc. and they literally surround you trying to get the food. I may or may not have gotten startled a time or two as all the birds started flocking around us and even taking off into flight. It really was quite the experience and all for only $0.50! πŸ™‚

Notice Ti has his legs folded up under him. He was afraid if he put them down he would step on one or a few of the birds!

As we ran out food and walked away, all the birds followed us. It was quite a sight.

After feeding the birds we decided to check out some of the animals. This new calf that was just born a couple weeks earlier. She had such pretty coloring!

Checking out the Turkeys. Ti wasn’t so sure about the fact that we’d be eating a turkey just like them in a few weeks for dinner.

No, I didn’t let Titan pet the horse due to signs saying they might take off a finger, but he sure wanted to!

Waiting for the wagon ride.

Some of our views on the ride. Utah really is SO pretty this time of year!

…and a quick shot with mom to prove I was there! πŸ˜‰

Still playing catch up! I realize it’s almost Christmas but I still have so much to document from the rest of my mom’s vacation with us to Titan’s birthday and even Thanksgiving. For those of you who are sticking around and still reading, thank you! I promise by the end of December I’ll actually be posting about things that happen in December!! πŸ™‚

Any way, onto this post…

While my mom was with us in October we decided to venture out to the Garden of the Gods for some exercise and to take in the gorgeous scenery.

The view from the scenic overlook.

While we were there this time we decided to watch the short video presentation that they offer about how the red rocks developed here in Colorado Springs and how they became known as the Garden of the Gods. The movie was $5 per adult and kids under 5 were FREE! (I’ll admit, the fact that Titan was turning 5 in a few weeks may or may not have prompted me to want to see it during this visit vs. in the future. May as well get the free ticket, right?) πŸ˜‰
The video was actually pretty entertaining and we all walked away learning something. For example, I had no idea that Katharine Lee Bates wrote America the Beautiful while sitting at the top of Pikes Peak looking down at the Colorado Springs valley. And, Titan liked learning about the new species of dinosaur, Theiphytalia Kerri, that was discovered in the Garden of the Gods.

The Kissing Camels. This is Titan’s favorite rock formation and he likes to look for it every time we go. He was a great little tour guide this time around.

Horrible lighting, I know. But that smile! Love this little man!

My boys posing for a picture for Grandma. Gotta love the little man’s pose! LOL
Speaking of poses…not quite sure where the idea for this one came from! πŸ™‚

Our view as we walked back to the Visitors Center.

After our hiking we decided to eat lunch at the Cafe at the Garden. Titan was VERY happy with the Fanta drink he talked Grandma into getting for him. A bottle just makes the drink that much more fun and tasty, right? At the Cafe the food was just ok, but really, it was the view that is what makes eating there worth it.
I mean, it doesn’t get any more picturesque than that! (And we couldn’t have asked for better weather!)

Hello! Just wanted to pop on to give you all a quick heads up that today I am guest posting at Crafty Night Owls! My $10 & Under Holiday Gift Ideas post is being featured in Crafty Night Owl’s 30 Days of Christmas Series! Enjoy!

I’m sure as each of us look at our calendars for the upcoming weeks we can see at least one party on the agenda that requires bringing a $5-$10 gift the Christmas season. Whether it’s a church party, a family party, a friends gathering or a social event at work, it seems 9 time out of 10, there is always that little request at the bottom to bring a $5-$10 item for a gift exchange.

And of course, without fail, there always seems to be the same items brought: King Size candy bars, lotions from Bath and Body works, soda, blankets & random Dollar Store items that you never know what to do with after. πŸ™‚

It is with these parties in mind (as well as all the stockings that will need stuffing come Christmas Eve) That I have rounded up some ideas for those still looking for those $5-$10 gifts. Of course keep in mind, these are simply ideas to get you started, I am sure there are far more creative ideas out there, but these are a start…

Framed sheet music. This one requires a little creating on your part, but it can be made for under $5. The tutorial can be found here & any song can be used so it can be a year round decoration.

Love it. Enough said. I mean, who wouldn’t be able to use this bowl at their next family gathering?
$10.00 at Walmart. You might remember this bowl from my Pear Salad.
We have this print up as part of our Christmas decor and I absolutely love it. For this gift all you need is a Christmas card (one can be found at any store right now or you can even use a card from years past) and a frame (this frame was under $5 from Tai Pan Trading in Utah). Put them together and woila! This is by far one of my cheapest, easiest and most favorite christmas decorations ever!

Or, how about a cozy, soft, scarf for those chilly winter days and nights. These were $5 each at Walgreen’s. I actually stocked up and bought three!
Who doesn’t love fresh flowers? You would have to get creative on the wrapping for these, but still a great idea. $5 at Walmart.

This one is one is definitely a girl’s gift but oh so fun! The Travel make-up bag was $3.99 at Walgreen’s & the nail polish was $1.00 (w/ a coupon).

If there is one thing I’m always searching for around this time of year it’s more tape or envelopes. Why not pick up some office supplies and wrap them up cute with a bow? The organizing trays were $1.40, envelopes were $1.00 & the tape was 2 for a $1.00, all at Walgreen’s.

This is one of my favorites. Cute wrapping paper and tissue paper. Again, another thing you’re always needing this time of year and can never have enough of. I actually got all of this for free on a great deal at Walgreen’s. You can’t beat free and the best part is, no one will ever know the great deal you got! (Well, unless you blog about it like me!) πŸ™‚
A favorite DVD. I purchased this movie for $5.46 on Amazon with free shipping and also got a $5.00 movie credit to use for Amazon on Demand. So my total cost for the DVD was .46 cents. At that price you can throw in some popcorn and a soda with the gift as well.

I purchased these LEGO’s for $29 at Walmart w/ free shipping, but got a $20 gift card with the purchase. So, my cost for the lego’s was only $9.00! These are perfect for a gift exchange where kid’s are involved or as a gift from Santa if he happens to show up at a family party!

I love these watches and they were under $9.00 including shipping a couple weeks ago on Tanga. What girl wouldn’t love unwrapping one of these? Especially since they were advertised as originally being close to $100.00?! This is one idea that would surely be stolen a few times! (Anyone know what game I’m talking about?!?) πŸ™‚
Lip gloss. A girl can never have too much lip gloss. I bought these to actually as a stocking stuffer for myself at Target. My total for 10 lip glosses was under $6.00 and that included shipping!

Next up, stamps! Who can’t use more stamps? You can pick up a pack of seasonal ones, 20 for $9.60
Last but not least, how cute are these hair clips from Forever 21? Especially for only $3.80, like seriously?! Forever21 has a ton of cute hair accessories and jewelry for under $10.00. They are definitely a great place to look when you are in need of ideas.
…and there you have it. Tons of great stocking stuffer and gift exchange ideas all for under $10.00!
Now some of these same deals or items may not be available anymore, but I’m sure you can find similar items/deals for a gift exchange if you keep an eye out. πŸ™‚ I just wanted to show you what I’ve found and help get your creative juices flowing. $5-$10 doesn’t seem like much but if you shop smart you can actually find some pretty good stuff! In fact, I actually like to keep a basket in our closet that I fill with things like these when I see them or think of them. That way when next Christmas rolls around, I’m stocked up and don’t have to stress out and find four different gifts at once. For example with the DVD and LEGOs, I actually am not sure what i’m going to use them for yet, but they were just too good to pass up so into the bin they will go! I’m sure I’ll need them at some point! πŸ™‚
(Note: This is a post I pulled from my archives and dusted off for today. It was first posted three years ago though and I know I have a ton of new readers since then! So I hope those of you who have read it before don’t mind the review!) πŸ™‚
