When I was asked to be a part of a General Conference Activities & Ideas Link Up with a few fellow blogger friends, my mind immediately went to recipes! I guess I like to snack while I watch Conference. ðŸ™‚ (If you aren’t familiar with Conference, you can read all about it here.)

A few of my favorite things to whip up over Conference weekend are Banana Nut Bread, Hawaiian French Toast, Blueberry Muffins, No Bakes & Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats. Something about the weekend always has me baking in between sessions.

Today I figured I’d once again share my all time favorite Banana Nut Bread recipe. (Believe me! I tried out a quite few before landing on this one!)

I am a huge fan of banana nut bread and am always so tempted to stop by the Starbuck’s that is literally right by our house and grab a slice of it and a caramel cream frappachino while I am out running errands or taking a break between Saturday’s sessions. Of course, that isn’t very budget friendly, so I try to make my own bread instead when the craving arises.

Banana Nut Bread

originally from America’s Test Kitchen

Use a loaf pan that measures 9″x 5″x 3″

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 very ripe, soft, darkly speckled bananas (mash well)
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 eggs, beaten lightly
6 Tbs. butter, melted and cooled
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups walnuts, chopped coarsely

1. Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour loaf pan. Make sure to use a generous amount of both.

2. Whisk together dry ingredients in a large bowl and set aside. In separate bowl, mix mashed bananas, yogurt, eggs, butter and vanilla. Fold banana mixture into dry ingredients with rubber spatula just until combined and batter looks thick and chunky. Fold in walnuts. Scrape batter into prepared pan and smooth surface with rubber spatula.

3. Bake until loaf is golden brown and toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, approximately 55 minutes. Cool in pan for 5 minutes and transfer to wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

My favorite way to eat it of course is warm! I love a thick crust and warm gooey inside! Plus, I love how this makes our kitchen smell.

When I make this, I do like to double the recipe. That way I have one loaf to eat right away and one to freeze. I am really trying to have more homemade food in our fridge & freezer versus store bought pre-packaged goods with tons of preservatives & who knows what in them. This bread is a great freezer recipe and I’m all about baking once, enjoying twice!

Now if I could just figure out how to make my own caramel cream frappachino at home! 🙂

PS: Tomorrow (Monday) I am taking part in HUGE giveaway also focused on General Conference & Easter! So make sure to check back and get entered!!!

St. Patrick’s Day 2014

An instructional network site is getting prescription for viagra the excellent place to buy and also promote goods and solutions inside the teaching business. Before discount cialis you get your license, there are some things you need to be aware of. The key viagra viagra online is not waiting but seeking care as a preventative or immediately when problems are identified. Many males are longing super viagra generic to last longer in bed to offer memorable sexual pleasure to your beautiful woman.

I have to admit, all growing up, I never really saw the draw around St. Patrick’s Day. It was a day you tried to remember to wear green and that was about it. Then, I had Titan. A very literal little man who we are trying to expose to more fun, magic, and creativity. So now we try to have a little more fun with it in our house! 🙂

We started off the morning with a quick scavenger hunt that the leprechaun left for us. (You can find these printable clues on the Five Little Chefs site.)
That is, after I pointed out the first clue to Titan. When he walked into my room in the morning for our morning snuggle and talk, he was not his usually happy and bright eyed self. He looked kind of annoyed. I asked him what was wrong and he said, “Well, you said it was St. Patrick’s Day today but I don’t see anything like from a leprechaun or any of that?” I quickly pointed out the first clue to the scavenger hunt which was right by my computer (because I know that’s his first stop in the mornings) and his face lit right up!! So off on the scavenger hunt we went. I was surprised at how fast Titan navigated the clues once I read them. (Which prompted a mental note on my part to make a goal to have him reading all his own clues by next year!)

The tricky leprechaun has us going all around the house!

Until, finally, the last clue lead us to the fridge and to Titan’s surprise. Some goodies, some Skylanders stickers, and a Skylanders wallet.
Those last two items Titan had been asking for every time we walked by the Target Dollar Spot and I kept telling him no. Then, one day I was there by myself, all of the “black star” items were 70% off. So they were only $0.30 each. Done and done. That I can say yes too! 🙂
When Titan saw the Lucky Charms cereal he said, “I just knew the leprechaun would bring me that. In fact, I kept seeing it at the store and thinking I needed to wait to ask you for it until I saw if the leprechaun brought it on St. Patrick’s Day. And look, he did!”

The leprechaun also left a note for us to go get a yummy sugar cookie from Kneaders. I thought we’d be able to find four leaf clovers (in the form of sugar cookies, of course) when we got there but they just had normal ones. Luckily Titan was so happy just to be getting a sugar cookie (and one of the jumbo ones at a that) that he didn’t care.

We love us a visit to Kneaders!!

“Look Mom, they have JUMBO ones!”

Naturally, we got our cookie to go. Mr. Time Management had other plans on his mind for the afternoon and so he said it would be silly to sit there just to eat a cookie. He then politely asked the girl to put it in a “To Go” bag.  ðŸ™‚
The best part of the day was when Titan said that the leprechaun who left the clues and surprise wasn’t very smart. I asked him why and he said because some of the clues were off. Like for “where you put your dirty clothes” he thought the next clue should have been by the washing machine and not his dirty clothes hamper. And for “what you use to cook food”, he thought the next clue should have been in the oven or microwave and not by the pots and pans. He also thought it was inconsiderate of the leprechaun to leave us gold chocolate coins and not real coins for us Kneaders excursion, “Don’t they know you have to pay with REAL money? Not chocolate?” (Like I said, he’s definitely our literal little man!)
…and that was our St. Patrick’s Day. Fun and easy thanks to a quick internet search, Kneaders Bakery and the Target Dollar Spot!
What does your family do for St. Patrick’s Day??
I see a lot of families making “traps” with their kids and I was thinking if I’m more on the ball next year we might add that to our fun! 🙂

Peterson Air & Space Museum

The medicine is among a few useful, reliable, successful purchase cheap cialis and functional treatments that help men normalizing their reproductive health. The dosage might over here cheap levitra be increased or decreased depending upon the effects. Studies have now revealed the extract’s value as an all-natural no prescription sildenafil combatant against erectile dysfunction and male impotence. Ask cialis super viagra questions if you don’t understand, and genuinely listen.

Broc took the afternoon off of work today so that we could go renew my military ID on base. ( It kind of expired back in September and I just barely noticed…oops! Luckily, I don’t need it for much more than proof we are military when military discounts are offered.)

While we were on base we noticed the Peterson Air & Space Museum and all the cool planes they had on display. So we decided to turn the afternoon into an impromptu field trip as well!

The museum isn’t very large but they had quite a few cool artifacts, pictures, etc. Plus, they had a computer program where you could interact with various planes that Titan found really cool.

After walking around the displays they had up inside, we watched a short film about the aviation and space history of Colorado Springs and Peterson Air Force Base. It was fun to see what the base looked liked as far back as the 1920’s! (And to see what Colorado Springs looked like at that time as well!) We also learned that the Broadmoor Hotel has been around for a lot longer than we realized. In the 1930’s the Broadmoor Hotel owned a hanger for people’s personal planes when the visited the hotel. They later sold the hanger to the city though and it is now being renovated and added to the museum.

It was also crazy to realize that the little building we were in was once the passenger terminal for the airport!

After the video we made our way outside to see the sixteen aircrafts and ten missiles that they have on display. Ti liked learning all the names of the different planes and what they were used for. I liked how close we were able to get the planes!

Broc and Titan with the Boeing CIM-10A “BOMARC”
We definitely lucked out that the weather was SO nice today!

Titan and I with the HAWK missiles mounted on their launcher. The missiles were a definite favorite of Ti’s. He didn’t want a picture with the planes, he wanted one with the missiles.

The Martin EB-57E “Canberra”

Half way through seeing all the planes Titan wanted to run back to the car for his sunglasses. Not wanting to go all the way back to the car, we offered him mine. I didn’t think he would accept the offer, but he did. And then he wore the glasses the rest of the time we were there. What can we say, he’s more worried about functionality and practicality than style! 😉

Checking out the displays in front of the museum as we left.

On our way home we decided we needed a treat and so we used our coupon we had for a free Diet Coke Frost Cherry Slurpee at 7-Eleven. I am not a big slurpee fan and so I was very skeptical…turns out it was actually quite yummy & I could see myself grabbing one of these again in the summer! (This seems to be the year of Cherry Diet Coke for us!)

Titan and Broc both tried the slurpee as well and both gave it a thumbs up. In fact, Titan refused to give it back! (Yes, we let our son have diet coke. No, I don’t need a lecture on the evil of it.) 🙂

All in all it was a great afternoon! I love when a random afternoon turns into some fun and educational family time! (Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it was all FREE as well! That makes it even better in my book…and Broc’s too of course!) 🙂

*****
The Peterson Air & Space Museum is a free museum that is opened pretty much year round on Peterson Air Force Base. If you do not have a military ID though, it seems like there is a lot of information and notice required to visit the museum. (Makes sense considering you do have to go on base to visit it!) The nice thing though is that if you have a little one who loves airplanes, you can look at pretty much everything online in the Museum Tour section!
We’ll definitely be visiting that section again the next time we want to learn more about aircrafts or missiles. 🙂
