Today I want to share one of my new favorite preschool resources with you. A while ago I was sent a copy of the Rachel and the Treeschoolers: A Rainy Day DVD & CD Combo Pack to review.

Upon its arrival, Titan and I sat down to watch the 30 minute episode and we LOVED it. The songs were fun, the characters were super cute and not only was it really educational… but it was very entertaining as well. In fact, after watching it once through with me, Titan asked if he could watch it again on his own. (Pretty sure he actually ended up watching it twice more!)

Here is a little bit more detail about the Treeschooler series from the site:

  • Delivers a well-rounded preschool curriculum.
  • Helps kids get ready for their first day of kindergarten.
  • Is hosted by Emmy-nominated Rachel Coleman from Signing Time.
  • Is based on an educational framework developed by Emily Swan, Ph.D.
  • Includes lots of songs that help kids remember what they’ve learned.
  • Teaches children HOW to learn (using the CORI method)
  • Actively involves kids’ whole bodies in learning.
  • Teaches emotional intelligence.
  • Nourishes self-esteem.
All in all, I was a BIG fan on this new DVD series. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the price. Being a newer program, one DVD & CD Combo pack containing a single episode (there are currently 3 episodes and new ones are being added over time) costs around $24.99. That’s a little pricey in my book for a 30 minute episode and some songs – even if they are very well done! 🙂

Luckily, a couple months after receiving my DVD I found out that Two Little Hands (the company that created the Treeschoolers and the same company that created the popular Signing Time videos) had launched a new digital subscription format similar to Hulu or Netflix. For only $14.99 a month you can subscribe to their digital database and access more than 40 videos, hundreds of songs, and every new product that they release! So not only do you get access to all of the current Treeschoolers episodes, but you also get access to all of their Baby Signing Time and Signing Time videos and music as well! How awesome is that?!

And, it gets even better because right now you can try out their Digital Subscription Program for 30-days for only $1.00! And once the month is up, you will be given a promotional rate of only $9.99 per month until you decide to cancel! (Reg. $14.99 per month)

To me, this option is a whole lot better than purchasing the actual DVDs at $24.99 each. The way I see it I can get three whole months on the digital site with access to everything for the same price as the one episode on DVD. And, the way their digital program works, I can even utilize the videos on the go on my phone – something I can’t do with the DVD.

I signed up right away for their 1-month trial as soon as I heard about it and Titan has had the two additional Treeschooler videos that are currently available on repeat. We also have been taking advantage of the Activity Packets that they have available that go along with each episode. This last week we watched the Incredible Insects episode together and then did a few of the activities from the suggested Activity Guide.

Ti did worksheets from the Incredible Insect Guide where, among other things, he got to learn all the parts of an insect and how to tell if a bug falls in to the insect category or not.

Then we went on a “Bug Hunt”.

Ti was very thorough in his hunt and made sure no rock went left unturned. 🙂

…he even spent some time checking out the greenery and dandelions up close.

And after our bug hunt, we made a “Bug Picnic”.

We learned about dividing something into “fourths” and then I let Titan select four of his favorite foods that he thought the bugs might like as well.

After the picnic was ready, we set it outside and Ti kept checking it to see which food the bugs went for first. This was a great science activity where we were able to make a hypothesis and then test it out. He thought they would go for the chocolate first and I thought they would go for the peanut butter first.

Seriously, I wasn’t kidding when I said this is one of my new favorite resources for teaching Titan. I love that there are the videos and the music we can listen to separately, as well as the Activity Guide for each episode. They give you so many great ideas and ways to keep the learning going far beyond just the video.

Plus, I really love the emphasis they put at the end of each episode on sharing what you learn! To me, that is the real key as to if Titan has learned something. If he can turn around & share it with others then I know it’s been actually learned and not just stored in his short term memory! 🙂

When I was growing up our Easter baskets were always filled with church themed items, some candy and maybe one little toy or stuffed animal. When Broc and I had Ti, we decided to “request” the same from the Easter Bunny! 😉
Titan knows that the Easter Bunny brings church stuff and Santa brings the toys. 🙂

This year Titan received an Illustrated Book of Mormon Stories that he and I can use to build upon what we are reading together during our family scripture time. I like the idea of reading scriptures from the Book of Mormon or Bible all together as a family and then using this book during the day to re-cap what we read, look at pictures, etc.
I have actually been meaning to grab a book like this for a few years now but could never track one down at the price I wanted. So, when I saw this for 15% off at Seagull Book, I finally grabbed it. 🙂 It was a little pricier but definitely worth it in my mind.

Titan has one of these puzzle books already (It’s a New Testament one) and it is PERFECT for throwing in my bag for church. I like that it’s durable, church themed, and quiet. And Titan likes doing the puzzles and other hidden activities they include.
So when I saw this other version on clearance, I knew I had to get it! (Side note: It definitely pays to know your prices and to shop around. I grabbed this at Seagull on clearance for around $5.00 and that same day at Deseret Book I saw it for close to $10.00.)
Titan saw this in his basket and said, “The Easter Bunny must know how much I REALLY like my other puzzle book. It’s just like that one!” – SCORE!

Living Scriptures “Nephi and the Brass Plates” DVD
Broc and I have been talking about purchasing the entire Living Scriptures DVD collection for a while now but have yet to make the investment. I mean, each DVD is usually around $25 and that’s when they are on sale. One day we’ll bite the bullet and just shell out the $200-$300, but until then….I saw this introductory pack at Seagull and picked it up for around $6.00. It doesn’t give us the entire collection by any means, but it’s at least a start!
Titan wasn’t super thrilled about a “church” movie. In fact, when he pulled it out of the basket he said, “Mom do you think you could sell this?” (Just keeping it real & honest…) When we all sat down and watched it together as a family after church on Sunday though, it did hold his attention and he was asking us some questions after about the story.

Filler Items
These were all some of the smaller “filler” items I picked up to add to the basket:
Ti was really excited that this tie didn’t have a clip. All his other ties have come as part of suit sets and they have been clip-ons which he says hurts his neck when he bows his head for prayers. So a new tie that didn’t have a clip was definitely one my list for this years basket. As far as the candy, I have a hard time buying the big bags of fun size candy, jelly beans, etc. because I only have to fill one basket. (And, Broc and I sure don’t need all that extra candy laying around.) To solve that dilemma, I just buy a couple novelty candy items and call it good.
What did your kids get in their Easter baskets this year?

A couple months ago I saw a fellow blogger post a pic of a new water bottle she was trying out on her Facebook page. It was the Sipping Schedule Water Bottle from Fun FIT and I thought it was such a fun concept. The water bottle is 32 oz. and it’s designed with a time schedule right on it to remind you to stay on schedule with your water in take. If you drink to each line by the time listed & fill up the water bottle one time between 1PM and 3PM, you will have gotten your 64 oz. in for the day! Simple enough, right?! 🙂
I am definitely not an avid water drinker. In fact, I’ve joked in the past that Diet Coke is my “water”. Being pregnant though and having a lot on my To Do list these last few months of my pregnancy (including a 11 day trip to Walt Disney World at the end of May that I know I’ll need to stay hydrated on!) has made me really trying to focus in on staying as healthy and active as I can. The last thing I need is to be dehydrated! So water has definitely been at the top of my priority list.
With that in mind, I purchased the Sipping Schedule Water Bottle as a fun incentive to help motivate me with my water in take. It came in the mail a few weeks ago and it is now my go to water bottle. (In fact, I’ve already sent a few of my older water bottles on their way to Salvation Army. I’ve liked this new one that much!)
My favorite features of the water bottle are:
  • It’s BPA free.
  • Fits great in my car cup holder.
  • It’s sturdy and durable. (I swear I’m getting clumsier throughout this pregnancy – or maybe it’s just that I’m usually trying to do too much at once – and I’ve dropped this bottle more than a couple times and it’s held up great.)
  • It doesn’t leak. (I’ve thrown it in my purse a few times and never had any water damage!)
  • It has a large open top. This is awesome for loading your water up with ice or even fruits and vegetables if you like flavored water. (You can see pins of some different Flavored Water recipes on my In the Kitchen board on Pinterest!)
  • The times and little motivational prompts on the bottle may seem silly, but they actually are a great reminder. There are many times I’ve looked up from my work or errands, noticed the time, and realized I need to catch up. Plus, did you know it’s better to drink your water a little bit throughout the day vs. trying to chug it down all at once?
  • It’s SUPER easy to clean. No small parts, straws, etc. to worry about!
If you are a looking for a great way to help yourself stay hydrated this summer, I definitely recommend grabbing one of these water bottles. I mean, it’s gotten me much closer to my 64 oz per day…and that’s saying something for this avid Diet Coke drinker! 😉
Of course, another way to score one is to simply enter my giveaway! After trying out the Sipping Schedule Water Bottle I contacted the owner letting her know how much I loved it and the company is very generously giving me TWO water bottles to give away to Live to be Inspired readers! YAY!
Get entered now…Good luck!
PS: The company has just recently come out with lots of new bottle colors, a new design with different motivational prompts and with the bottle band. Not going to lie, the band is already on my “must purchase” list. I mean it’s only $5 and how perfect for when you are exercising? And the cute new design may tempt me to grab a back up water bottle as well. I just need to have a second one on hand for when the other one is being washed, right?! 🙂

Special thanks to Fun FIT for sponsoring this Giveaway. Of course, while this post was sponsored, all opinions are 100% my own.
