halloween care package

as this is the first year i’ll really truly be away from my family on halloween, i decided to put together a little halloween package for them since i know they’ll all be together at some point during the weekend. i had so much fun putting it together, i may need to make it a yearly tradition (as i don’t anticipate we’ll be moving back to utah anytime soon…) the best part about it was it didn’t really put a dent in my budget, i simply collected various things over the last couple months until i felt i had enough to deem worthy of mailing. most of the items are for my nieces and nephew but a few were for the adults (some who are still very young at heart…)

how to put together a halloween care package…

step 1: gather your ingredients

…a monster book for my nephew ($1)

…3 halloween headbands for my nieces ($1 each)

…coupon books provide a tasty treat for both the young and old at wendy’s (these coupon books are a childhood memory…$3)

…some “coke” $$$ for my dad since frosty’s really aren’t his thing ($2)
…vampire fangs, halloween bangles, a couple cd mixes, a spooky card and some pencils & notebooks complete the list (about $4-$5)

step 2: gather your packaging. in my case a shoe box (free) and some fun filler ($2) from walmart

step 3: address & send on it’s way for the recipient(s) to enjoy!
all of my items were things i already had, or purchased at walmart & target’s dollar sections. of course, the coupon frosty books are from wendy’s. so if you need to put together some quick goody bags today or drop of a care package to a friend tomorrow that’s where to head. i’m sure you could also find some great goodies at michael’s or the dollar store.
also, don’t forget monday all things spooky & halloween will be at least 50% off, if not more. so that will be the time to stock up for next year’s decor and care packages.

side note: i always clear my calendar for the day after halloween & christmas to go shopping and pick up things for next year. i’ll be hitting up my favorite stores online & around town first thing monday morning. i got into the habit after my favorite high school teacher ever let me in on her secret as to how she decks out her home for the holidays on a teacher’s pay. she is die hard and literally takes the day after halloween off from work and gets a sub so she can go shop the sales & i’m telling you, her house is ah-mazing at halloween and christmas! simply to die for! i’m telling you, it’s decorated down to the hooks on the shower curtains and it all looks phenomenal! so take a tip from a design extraordinaire (my teacher, not me) & if you find yourself lacking in the halloween decor department, head out monday morning thinking ahead for next year! if you live in colorado you just might see me out and about as well. happy shopping!
