i went to a yoga class this morning at our rec center & seeing as how i was maybe the only person in the class under the age of 50, i did think about leaving. i started to wonder if i had wasted my time and if i was really going to get anything from the class, but then i remembered, you get what you give, and i stayed. any yoga is better than no yoga, right? i’m glad i did stay because i gained the following insight at the end, it’s not a new insight by any means, but it hit home more today…
during the rest period the instructor said the following as part of a whole statement “live your convictions without apologizing”. for some reason this line really stuck out to me and i had the following thought, “relationships are a compromise, aren’t they where sometimes you need to apologize?” which was then followed by the thought, “yes, on some things, but you should never be compromising who you really are or asking your partner to compromise who they are. sometimes you may need to agree to disagree, but you should be allowed to be you. period. you should be able to live your convictions without apologizing in your main relationships.”
yes, whether it’s with a spouse, a parent, a sibling or a close friend, you should be able to be you, no apologies. now don’t get me wrong, if you hurt someone intentionally or harm them in any way, shape or form, yes you need to apologize and seek change but if you are living in tune & harmony with the spirit, your light, or whatever you’d like to call it and are living your life how you believe to be right, honest, true, good & from a foundation of love – you should never need to apologize for that. you shouldn’t have to apologize for living your life and being true to you.
we are all different. we all have different likes and dislikes. we all have different loves and passions and we should never have to apologize for being different than someone else. we should live our convictions without apologizing and allow other’s to do the same.
there is more that goes along with this thought, but that is all i feel like sharing for now. i think that’s what i love the most about yoga, it allows you to think while you move. it allows you to be more present and in tune. am glad i stayed today. will be trying to work more yoga into my weekly routine. if any of you are seeking some calm during this whirlwind of a holiday season, i strongly suggest finding a local yoga class to attend, or maybe just carve out 10 minutes a day to hide somewhere and sit quietly and do a little meditation? i promise you’ll see the benefits!
before i go, i just have to share, that as soon as i got home from yoga feeling all relaxed and somewhat enlightened (ha ha) i heard my son up and walked in to find him sans diaper. he apparently took his wet diaper off deciding it was yucky. am thinking it’s time to start potty training, no?
from yoga to potty all in an hour. oh, the life of a mom!

ps. how cute are these yoga mats? they can be found at gaiam for around $35. my personal favorite is the one on the end, although it’s pretty hard to choose a favorite.
