to continue, sort of, along the same thought vein as yesterday and “being intentional”, one of my side goals this year has been to simplify and to stop living for “someday”. to put that into context, we have not lived in our “own” place since 6 months after being married, which means that for the past 3 1/2 years all of our stuff (and anything else we’ve collected along the way) has been in storage for all the time. the key in that sentence is “…and anything else we’ve collected along the way”. for the past 3 1/2 years i have purchased things, held onto things, saved things, etc. all for that someday when we will need them. someday i will need my swiffer again. someday i will need cupcake tiers. someday i will need 12 totes of christmas decorations. someday we will have a house with a guest bedroom and need that extra set of sheets, someday i will have the perfect place for that totally fabulous mirror! someday i will have space for a designated wrapping station and have room for my massive collection of wrapping paper (that only seems to increase! oops!)
…you get the idea! there’s a whole lot of someday going on and i’ve started to see just how much it’s getting in the way of NOW! now when we technically only have 2 bedrooms, a bathroom & a shelf in the garage that is “our” living space and are still trying to find places for everything. our bedroom serves as a living room, computer room & place to sleep. the little man’s room serves as a storage area, toy room, place for him to sleep, office & craft area. of course, don’t get me wrong, we do use other area’s of the house, but for living…not as holding areas for stuff.
so what does this mean? it means as i’ve been going through things the past few weeks i’ve been looking at each and every item asking myself:
  • do we really need or love this?
  • is it serving us now?
  • & can it be multi purpose somehow?
these questions are the reason i’m loving the following multi-purpose cleaner that i started making up and using a few months ago. i love it because i can use it on everything (i mean, everything!) and because it’s natural & homemade. i know exactly what is in this cleaner. unlike a few cleaners under my sink…
… and yes, it answers a 100% yes! to all three of the above questions! we need clean counters & i love how simple this product is. it is definitely serving us now & it has cut my cleaners by probably 75% giving us more space for here and now! it’s literally a win win all the way around.
some more the pros of this recipe are: it smells great (no toxic smell here), it kills 99.9% of germs, it’s safe to use around titan & it’s ridiculously cheap!
ready for the recipe yet? here you go…

ingredients:

  • 3% hydrogen peroxide (under a $1.00 at most stores)
  • water
  • essential oils lemon, tea tree, and lavender. all can be found at whole foods (or any health food store) and they will last you forever, so don’t be scared by the upfront cost.
  • a spray bottle top

recipe:

  • use one 16 oz. hydrogen peroxide bottle half full, and fill the other half with water. make sure to keep the brown container because the hydrogen peroxide will loose it’s power if exposed to light.
  • add in 5 drops of lemon oil (lemon is an antibacterial, deodorizer and disinfectant)
  • add in 5 drops of tea tree oil (tea tree is an antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal)
  • add in 2-5 drops lavender oil (for scent purposes) although you can use any scent that you like. i had lavender already on hand so that is what i used. i love how calming it is!
  • and you’re done. oh, except for remembering to shake before each use!
so so simply and easy. love it & i guarantee you will too! oh, and ps. don’t forget to label your bottle!!!
