intention.

that words seems to be a “buzz” word for me lately. i am hearing it pop up all over the place & it has made me pause more than once in the past week. you may even remember this post i wrote about being intentional just a few days ago.

today it it caught my attention again in a big way, as if to say, “i’m pretty important – LISTEN UP! maybe you didn’t get it enough the first time, so here i am again!”.

i was watching the show on OWN where contestants are competing for their own talk show, and actually i was watching a dvr’d espisode from weeks ago that i haven’t had the time to fit in until today. at one point the hosts of the show were talking with oprah and she said the following:

“i lead with intention & end with intention. so, in order to focus a person you have to begin with the end in mind. what is it you want the audience to feel or experience at the end of that segment? and tell me what that intention is & and then let EVERYTHING YOU DO BE APART OF THE EXECUTION OF THAT INTENTION. intention, intention, intention.” ~ oprah

now if oprah believes that strongly about intention, oprah who has created an entire empire (well almost!), and done so much with her life….maybe, just maybe, there’s something to it! 🙂

i love how she said, “you have to begin with the end in mind.” it made me stop and think, what is the end result i want in regards to certain things in my life?

what is the end result i want to accomplish with my health?
what is the end result i want when it comes to raising the little man?
what is the end result i want with our finances, and why?
in a conversation with my husband, what is the end result i am seeking?
what is the end result i want with this blog?
what is the end result i want from an activity i plan for a church?

it all boils down to what my intention is.

i’ve found this has really broadened my perspective and helped me to see the big picture, while also sharpening my focus. what exactly is my intention? what exactly is the end result i want in all things, because that then will guide where should i be placing my effort and energy.

i’ve decided i need to spend some time (probably during my attempt at an hour of daily solitude) and really focus my intentions. time to make sure i’m living my life on purpose, and not just letting it drift by.
then when i’ve focused my intentions i need to LET EVERYTHING I DO BE APART OF THE EXECUTION OF THAT INTENTION.

What inspired words. Intention is such a little understood word. Thank you bringing my attention back to the fundamentals.<br />Vicki Sparks
