Looking for a fun way to work on letter recognition with preschool age kids? Try a game of Bingo! I found this really cute Halloween Bingo game in the Target Dollar Spot a week or so ago and Titan and I have had a lot of fun playing together. He likes playing a game with mom and I like that we are working on his letters and direction following while having fun at the same time.

Of course, since it is usually just the two of us, we did have to make up some of our own “House Rules”. For example, rather than one person being the caller, we take turns closing our eyes and picking out the next picture to call. Then, the rule is you have to say the first letter of the word/picture you picked up. That way Titan is working on his letters and working on matching words to pictures/objects.

As you can see, the awesome thing about this version of Bingo is that the pieces have both the word written out and a picture. So it’s super easy for Titan to recognize what he has selected. And, he is able to put the word with the picture for easier recognition the next time he comes across that word.

We also have a rule that if you get Bingo, you get to take two turns being the caller. And, we generally play until all of our squares are filled up and we both have a black out.

Basically, we make up our own rules as we go, but you could also play just like regular Bingo if you had a larger group. In fact, Titan is already planning on taking this game to Utah to play with his cousins Halloween night. This game is definitely getting a lot of use and turning out to be well worth the $1.00 we paid for it! I really think the only downside to the game is I do worry about it holding up as it’s all on cardboard and card stock. To solve that dilemma though, I may just laminate the pieces. Of course, considering it was only a $1.00, I won’t be too disappointed if it’s hammered after only one month of playing and learning. 🙂

What is the best thing you’ve picked up at the Target Dollar Spot lately? Anything good I need to keep any eye out for?
I love all the things I’m able to find for really cheap for our Preschool bin and at-home learning. Adding new things in here and there definitely helps keep Titan more interested. Plus, it’s fun when you can theme things around the different holidays! 🙂
