Barbados
Our first day in port we were in Barbados and we decided to take our little family on the Pirate Ship excursion. We got to swim in the ocean, walk the plank, jump off a rope swing and even do some dancing! (Well, the boys did most of that, I certainly did not walk the plank or jump from a rope swing at 13 weeks pregnant!)
“Mom, look it’s a pirate and we are headed to a pirate ship. We need a picture!”

On our way to the pirate ship…

The boys getting ready for their swim in the ocean. Titan wasn’t so sure about it at first…

Eventually he warmed up to it though! 🙂

Then, while we were sailing around the island, he decided to take a nap. He apparently needed to store up his energy for all the dancing we would be doing later… 🙂

Every day we were in port we would wait to eat lunch when we got back on the ship. No use paying for food when you have free (well, already paid for) food waiting for you on the ship. One of my favorite things about going on a cruise is all the food options. Titan was able to branch out and try so many different foods…and it didn’t matter if he didn’t like them, because he could always go grab something else. 🙂 I think knowing that he had other options always available made him A LOT more adventurous.
St. Lucia

The day we were in St. Lucia we joined Broc’s family at a local beach for a beach day. Ti LOVED playing in the sand and water.

The fruit vendor.
This guy came around the bend in his boat selling bananas, pineapple, coconuts, etc. Broc enjoyed some of the fruit and then asked me how I would feel if we moved to an island like St. Lucia and he worked part-time as a doctor and part-time as a floating fruit salesman. I must admit, I would not be super opposed to that plan. I could hang out on these beaches ALL day every day!!! I love the sun and ocean!

Titan hanging out with Papa Dan! (Broc’s Dad)

That night it was a formal night at dinner for the New Years Eve celebration! I was so sad that this picture had such awful lighting! My camera phone is definitely a hit and miss sorta deal! Ti had so much fun running around with these guys during the trip and they were all good sports to let him hang out with them considering the next closest one in age is 8!

Ti at the New Years Eve Party! The first little bit of the party he had fun running around and dancing. As the party got more crowded though we had to put him up on Broc’s shoulders.

…and occasionally we took breaks in the buffet area to get away from the noise.

Overall, Titan approved of our New Years Eve Celebration! He even almost made it to Midnight. (I think he asked to be taken back to the room at 11:50.) LOL

Celebrity Cruise Lines | Southern Caribbean Cruise – Part One

Over New Years we were able to go as a family on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean. We went on Celebrity Cruise lines and enjoyed a sea day and then stops in Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Maarten & St. Thomas.

This cruise set sail in Puerto Rico. So, the day after Christmas we drove back to Colorado, unpacked from Christmas, packed for the cruise, and then left for the airport bright and early! All I can say is, thank heavens Titan is easy to travel with and likes to sleep on the plan too! Otherwise, it would have been a REALLY long couple of travel days!

My boys…apparently not so chipper when they’ve been up since 4AM! 🙂

Ti prepping for the flight!
Once we landed in Puerto Rico, we checked into our hotel and then headed out for dinner.

At dinner I asked what drinks they had and was happy to hear they had DC. Of course, then when they brought me a can…I was a little disappointed. Especially since we walked past a Walgreens on our way to the restaurant where I could have purchased the same can for 1/3 the price. LOL

Titan’s travel companion for the day!

Ti’s favorite part of dinner was watching what was going on out on the street. I have to admit, patio dining at the end of December sure is nice! I was LOVING the 80 degree weather!

After dinner we walked over to the beach right by our hotel and showed Titan the ocean and then it was back to the hotel.

We didn’t book our hotel the first night, it was booked for us by Broc’s family. The best description of this hotel is was very, um, basic. 🙂 (And yes, all three of us slept on that bed. We had the option of a pull-out but were so tired by the time we got in, we just made it work.) I wouldn’t stay at this hotel for an extended stay, but for one night, it was adequate and clean…enough. 🙂 (PS: Ti wanted to be in every photo I took, “You know…for size perspective”.) LOL

The next morning we walked over to the beach and took some quick family photo’s with Broc’s family. I figured I may as well snap some quick candids with my phone. 🙂

I definitely could get used to this view!

Titan was fascinated by the palm trees by our hotel and by the shadows they cast.

After pictures it was time to pack up and head to the cruise ship. This was Titan’s first meal on the cruise ship. It sure didn’t take him long to acclimatize to cruise life… 😉

The little man learning how to order his soda’s with his drink card!

Love these two crazies!

Walking around the ship. Love spending time with this little man!

And then of course, it was straight to the pool! Well, for Titan and Broc any way!

I spent my time watching them and enjoying my second (or perhaps third) of MANY pina coladas on the trip. (We purchased the Non-Alcholic Premium Drink Card for me and we definitely got our money’s worth out of it!)

Ti with all of Broc’s cousins. (Ti also calls them his cousins even though they are technically his “first cousins once removed” or something like that! LOL)

Our first full day on the ship was our only sea day and we took full advantage. I woke up early to enjoy some time by the pool and then once the boys woke up we headed off to breakfast. The chocolate fountain at breakfast was definitely a big hit!

We love yummy breakfasts with excellent service! After breakfast it was back to the pool for Ti Guy and I, and Broc played in a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament.

That night Broc and I sent Titan off with Grandma and Grandpa to dinner & we snuck away for a mini date night at Qsine. Qsine is one of the on board restaurants that isn’t included in the regular dining plan and dinner there was my Christmas gift from Titan and Broc. In fact, the very first thing Titan said once we boarded the ship was, “Mom, I can tell you our Christmas surprise now! You get to go on a date with dad to one of the really yummy restaurants that costs extra! Are you so excited?! Dad is going to make the reservation as soon as we get to our room!” – I loved how excited he was about the surprise. 🙂

I didn’t get very many good pictures in the restaurant. The lighting changed all through out the meal and didn’t lend well to photos.
Overall, we really liked the experience. It’s not very often we get to order our meal on iPads, eat our appetizers from a carousel wheel and choose our dessert off of a game cube!  The food and decor were both really fun and unique, to say the least, and I don’t think there was anything we ordered that we didn’t like!! (Which is saying something considering I was still dealing with morning sickness…lol)
Dessert!

A look at the food options they have. The food came in all sorts of displays and arrangements. Basically how you see it here, is how it came to your table.
Love date nights!

After dinner we went to pick up Titan from the Child Center where he requested to be dropped off after dinner and found that our little monkey had been having quite the night!

Can’t beat getting to make a monkey mask and enjoying some cookies and milk!

…and then Broc and Titan played some Munchkin with all of Broc’s cousins while I went to bed! 🙂
Up next, our excursion days!

Before Broc and I had Titan, we celebrated Valentine’s Day in the way most couples do. A nice dinner out, maybe a movie or other activity, and the usual gifts of jewelry, flowers, etc.

Once we had Titan though, it felt weird not to include him in the Valentine’s Day celebration. After all, it’s a day all about love. And I don’t think that should just be limited to the love that couples share.

So, we decided that on February 14th, the actual day of Valentine’s Day, we would celebrate as a family. And then earlier or later in the week we would go out just the two of us. (Side note: This also helps us avoid all the crowds on the 14th!) 🙂

Here is how we celebrated with the little man last year…

Before he woke up we blew up a few red balloons we had on hand and scattered some hearts I found in the Target One Spot.
Then, on the wall by our kitchen table we printed out some hearts and wrote things that we love about him to go with each heart. We also set out a little gift from us and some candy.
I have to say that these hearts are by far the most talked about holiday activity around here. Titan has been asking me for months if we will be doing the hearts again this year. He even has a calendar in his room where he has been counting down the days to Valentine’s Day! (Of course that may also be because he thinks he might get a new Infinity character that day as well…) 🙂 Seriously though, I was so surprised how much he has talked about these hearts and Valentine’s Day. For something so simple, it sure did make a much bigger impact than I expected. This one little thing has reminded me over and over again that it’s not always the expensive or flashy things that our kids will remember most…it’s those activities that make them feel special and loved.

After I finished up work for the morning and Ti had eaten breakfast I had him help me put together his Valentine’s for friends. The color selection, stickers and signature were all his own design.

After delivering the Valentine’s we decided to make some cookies for dessert after dinner. We used the Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies with Hearts recipe from Marta Writes.

These cookies are perfect to make with little ones because they can help with everything from unwrapping the chocolates to rolling the dough into balls.
And, after making the cookies, we cleaned up the house a little so it would be nice for dad when he came home, read a Valentine’s Day story (I try to pick up a new one each year) and enjoyed the fresh flowers Broc and Titan surprised me with the night before!
(If you are looking for some fun books to read with your kids this week, some of our favorite are: Little Bear’s Valentine, Dumpy’s Valentine, Panda’s Valentine’s Day, Henry and the Valentine Surprise and Valentine’s Day. That last one is by Alice K. Flanagan and it’s all about how Valentine’s Day started, different Valentine’s Day traditions, etc.)
Out of all the holidays, Valentine’s is quickly becoming a favorite for our favorite because it is all about family and sharing our love for each other. I know it gets a bad rap for being so commercial and forced but I like having the reminder and a day set aside to focus on love and spending extra time with my boys. And, if you spend a little time planning and getting creative, it all doesn’t even have to be expensive. For example, the hearts didn’t cost anything other than paper and a little ink that we already had on hand and that is what Ti talks about the most!
PS: Just in case you didn’t believe me about the calendar…
How does your family celebrate Valentine’s Day?

What Valentine’s Day memory and/or tradition do your kids talk about the most?
