the jean dark side

The first was a generic sildenafil from india simple research problem. Well, doing this may worsen the condition leading other failures in next cheapest viagra from india intercourses. i have a confession to make. i have never been one to follow the jean trend. you know the trend i’m talking about? miss me’s, big star’s, seven’s, rock revival’s – just to name a few. these are all apparently the  “it” jeans of the moment. the non mom jeans or “non soccer mom” jeans. the new (well new to me!) jean to wear. now i’m sure this has been the case for a while now (probably years even) i’ve just never jumped on board. i am not very in the know when it comes to fashion. i buy what i like and stick to classics. i’m not trendy at all. “if the jeans fit, great!” has always been my motto. my jeans up to this point have always been from target, kohls, kmart, and maybe the gap. i wasn’t even aware that jeans had a brand name other than the store brand really. yes, that’s how clueless i have been. then i was given a gift card to the buckle for christmas.
i went in last week to spend the gift card and it was quite the educational experience. i walked in and started to grab the first pair of capri’s that i saw when i was interrupted by the sales girl asking me what i was looking for. my answer was simple “some new capri’s or long shorts for summer.”

sales girl: well, what kind?
me: um, capri’s or bermuda shorts. just something for summer.
sales girl: yeah, you said that. so do you want the miss me’s? or the big star’s?
me: um….i just want capri’s. i bought some jeans last year and liked those, so…
sales girl: what kind of jeans?
me: well…i got them here. buckle jeans?
sales girl (giving me quite the look): all right… how about you just go to the dressing room and i’ll grab you a bunch of options. what size are you?
me: um…
sales girl: you’re a 26 or 28. i’ll grab those. go ahead and go wait.
me: ok. maybe you should grab some 30’s? just in case.
sales girl: no. you’re a 26 or 28. see you in a minute.

within a minute of entering the dressing room there is a knock and i am handed 5 pairs of shorts/capri’s all varying in style and length from bermuda to just above the ankle and told “just let me know if you need anything else.”
now let me stop here and explain that i don’t think i’ve ever walked into a dressing room with less than 15 pairs of capri’s or pants to try on when i’m serious about walking away with a pair. why? well because generally i’m all over the place in size, one brand is one size, another brand another size, etc. and of course what ends up being able to make it over my thighs and hips (my hips have taken doors off their tracks for heaven’s sake!) is usually then gaping at my waist or the waist ends up not being high enough, as i’m just not a fan of my zipper being less than an inch long. i don’t wear my waist up to by belly button, but a little coverage is necessary, i mean, come on. oh, and don’t forget the shading, fading, coloring, and pockets. yes, all this needs to be taken into account when trying on jeans as well.
so as i was handed the measly five pairs, i thought “really? why couldn’t she just leave me alone. now i’m going to have to try these on and then get dressed again and go back out and find more. grr. not a fan of sales people”
imagine my surprise when i tried on all five pairs and all but one pair fit perfectly. like, “i’m in heaven, i adore them all, i want to buy them all, i don’t want to take them off for even a second” perfectly, and the one pair that i didn’t love was only because it hit the wrong place on my calf, they were the wrong length. i was remembering the rule that you want your hem to hit the slimmest part of your leg not right in the middle of your calf. it really is a good rule, as it does make you look shorter if it hits in said place and, as i’m only 5’4, i don’t really need help appearing shorter.
yes, four out of the five pairs were keepers. i was in awe and pure shock. it was as though some magical jean fairy had arrived and sent me to jean heaven. the once stupid and obnoxious sales girl was suddenly in my mind, a jean genius! a jean wizard! my new best friend!
of course then i was back to cursing her and wishing a money fairy would arrive because there was no way i was walking out with all four of them (the cheapest being $68). so, after much debate, i decided on a favorite and exited out of the dressing room to a smiling sales girl who grinned like the cheshire cat, as though she knew. she knew she was right and i was wrong. she knew she had just educated and forever enslaved me to the jean trend (maybe). she knew…
yes, i am a fan. i now “get” the jean movement. of course, i’m not sure if i just got really lucky with an amazing sales person or if the buckle’s various jeans really are that body friendly and overall flattering. i think it’s a mixture of both. either way, i really don’t care though. i am still in love with the capri’s i bought and i really wish i could wear them every day. they were 100% worth every penny. in all honesty, it’s as though every other item in my wardwrobe looks that much better, simply because i finally have a pair of “fabulous” jeans to pair it with. i now get the importance of investing in phenomenal jeans. they are a basic and the foundation to a killer wardwrobe, and when you have a solid and rockin’ foundation – you can only go up from there. i attempted to find the pair i finally purchased (the pair i am wearing in the above photo’s) at buckle’s website but could only find the vintage big star liv jeans and short shorts. here is the link to those though, in case you are shopping early for fall.
now, will i only and forever just shop at the buckle for my jeans from now on? probably not. will i only buy ubber expensive jeans from now on because you “have to” to find a good pair of jeans? again, probably not. i do have other jeans/capri’s i love almost as much that cost much much less that i’ve been wearing for a while. they were harder to find and a lot more work to find, but they were cheaper and have served me well. it is possible to dress well on a budget and to find good jeans under $30. you just have to be willing to be patient and invest the time for the hunt. it is possible, i’ve been doing it for years.
i must admit though, i did enjoy living the good life for a moment & i do think it is easier to find what you’re looking for when you can spend more, without a doubt. it’s easier to find anything though when money isn’t a question, that’s just reality. i try to find a happy medium in my wardrobe. i do splurge sometimes for foundation pieces or things i absolutely adore (like my rachel zoe faux fur vest), but overall when you look in my closet, most everything you see has been bought on sale or clearance. you will also see brands ranging from walmart to banana republic. i am definitely not a brand loyalist. if it fits and i like it, i don’t care where it’s from or what it cost. that’s my motto. i enjoyed splurging with my gift card and going a little wild over a pair of jeans, but in the end, i doubt i’ll be spending that on every pair of jeans – my bank account just won’t allow it, at least now while we’re in the med school years.

Ha ha, I think I did the exact same thing this year! I had no clue about all the names. Your blog is so fun, so I thought I'd just leave a comment. Also, I loved your bridal shower posts, and was wondering what you put in the little favors… m&m's? I want to do some for a baby shower.

Thank you! 🙂 The favors have green m&m's and peanuts in them, simple & easy. The little jars were from Michael's a few months ago, so they may or may not still have them? I'd bet they still have them, or something similar. So glad you commented! 🙂

The m&m's are from Zurchers. I'm pretty sure?! (someone else picked them up for me) I'll double check and let you know. They have a lot of colors there separated so you can just buy the color you want. 🙂
