a couple nights after we arrived in highlands ranch, the husband and i decided to take a night off from moving in and go see a movie. we had heard phenomenal things about the movie inception and decided to give it a go. of course by take a night off, i mean we stopped unpacking at 9:00 pm in order to get to the movie by 10:00 pm so that the little man could stay home in bed with the in-laws while we went. inception is not on the toddler approved list.
first thought: a 10:00 pm movie, what were we thinking? i really had a hard time staying awake. even after downing my super sized diet coke! so that may be part of why i didn’t absolutely LOVE the movie. i liked it. i just didn’t LOVE it, the way everyone else seems to.
overall it was a good movie. i loved the concept and all, but i am not a fan at all of leonardo so that was a minus point from the get go. i’m also not a fan of shooting/blowing up movies. now i get the point as to why they had to blow things ups. i understand why things needed to happen. i just think the story line could have held the same concepts without being a shoot ’em up/blow ’em up movie! ya know?
although maybe that’s the only way one could get the “masses” to pay attention to a concept like that?
it was a nice night out though and i enjoyed seeing a movie without the mini man running around. it was also a very nice break from all the moving and unpacking. felt so good just to put our feet up for a while. we have come to the conclusion though that we won’t be seeing many more movies while here in colorado. our tickets were each $10.00 and then my drink was $5.25?!?!? like seriously?
i didn’t realize how spoiled we were in utah with the $8.00 tickets (or free tickets if we went with my mom) and refillable 44 oz. mugs for only $1.00 at megaplex theatres. those mugs were heaven sent! i miss those mugs now. i really miss them!
total i think our date night expenses were around $33.00 to simply go see a movie which in my mind is absurd. so we won’t be doing that again. we’ll be waiting for movies to come out and adding them to our netflix que or seeing movies when we are on vacation in utah!
which means, i am definitely reinstating friday night movie nights here at the house – such a cheap date. i buy our favorite movie snacks from the grocery store, get $1.00 drinks from mcdonalds, and then we cozy up in our bed to a movie from netflix. date night for under $5.00 is what i’m talking about. plus, then you watch in your pajamas and you don’t have to get a babysitter. yes, friday night movie night is being reinstated, not sure why we stopped doing it in utah? except we do enjoy going to the theatre and it was much cheaper than here in colorado.
ah, the life of students on a budget! gotta love it!
